what is bayl?

Rooted in the Midwestern plains, Bayl creates heirloom-quality woolen goods. Born from collaborations, and a connection to the more-than-human world - it is an expression of the human tradition of shepherding, and is now reimagining the future of ethical apparel.

Crafted with care for our bodies and for planet earth, each garment begins its life with the respectful harvest of merino fiber, sourced from Rambouillet sheep. By working closely with the few remaining domestic wool processors, and by using only natural, plant and mineral based dyes, we ensure that each stage of production is slow, thoughtful, and stewarded with integrity. The result is straightforward yet evocative apparel, designed to be joyfully worn by farmers and fashion-lovers alike.

Founder Josephine Trople, is a shepherdess and emergent thinker, who weaves ecology, animal husbandry, textile design, human history, and community. Her holistic approach is grounded in the principles of sustainable design and circular economy.
